5 Foundations that have CULT like status and rave reviews from beauty bloggers around the globe that just didn’t float my boat!

I picked this foundation up as I saw a number of beauty vloggers rave about how good it was. I was new to Clinique foundations so I thought this would be a great start. The product promises a fluid foundation that improves skin’s luminosity instantly and over time thanks to luminizing pigments and vitamin C. Buildable coverage from sheer to medium and has staying power throughout the day and SPF 15.
I tried this one with multiple application techniques and the best for me was fingers and finished off with a damp beauty blender. Applying with my foundation brush left a streaky look. I picked up shade WN38 Stone and it dried down a little dark so I could only wear it when I had self tan on. On my skin it didn’t have staying power and separated on my chin after 4 hours of wear. I used 2 different primers but both gave the same result with the separation on my chin and the product clinging to dry areas even though its pitched to dry skins. I really wanted to love it but it just didn’t stack up for me.

2. YSL Fusion Ink Cushion Foundation
I use and love a number of the YSL beauty products including everything in the Touche Éclat family. I was looking for something that I could use on the run and the cushion packaging seemed like a great option. A promise of the skin being radiant and matte coverage ticked my boxes. I’m not typically a matte girl as I have dry/combination skin and I haven’t had much luck with matte foundations, as you will see with the Fenty foundation review below. But I thought HEY give it a try as the product says it’s a radiant finish… Well NoNoNo sadly not on my skin. It clung to my dry areas and did not have staying power in my T zone throughout the day. Again I wanted to love this product and the packaging is so sleek but it just didn’t handle well on my skin. Also the sponge it comes with is useless.

3. Becca Ultimate Coverage Complexion Creme.
This product had great reviews online and I have a number of Becca products including the Shimmering skin Perfector which is a favourite. One of the big turn offs with this product is the smell. It reminded me of paint or just an awful chemical smell that lingered. The product is thick and I found it hard to sheer out. I mixed it with a moisturizer and I found it just separated and sat on the skin rather than sinking in seamlessly. The colour match was also hard, with such high coverage foundation that’s so pigmented an incorrect undertone really stood out. Not one for me.

4. It cosmetics Bye Bye Redness
As someone who has red areas in my T zone and can be acne prone at times, when I heard about this product I immediately clicked Add To Cart! According to the Sephora website Bye Bye Redness™ Correcting Cream is a red neutralizing and correcting cream that completely cancels redness in your skin from view.
What it does:
- Infused micronized red-cancelling pigments into a concealer cream
- Highly pigmented covers absolutely everything
- Infused with amazing ingredients for younger looking skin
- Does not require another makeup or foundation on top
- Can be worn alone on bare skin for no-makeup days!
I was really confused by this product. For me it was not a product that could be worn alone as it didn’t blend nicely into the skin without a primer to give it some slip. Even with a primer it was very matte on my skin and the chemical smell was very strong, which for me is a turn off. And finally it didn’t cover my redness 100% and layering the product looked too heavy on the skin. Another one to sit on the shelf sadly. I must say though I LOVE the It cosmetics CC illuminating cream which I use all the time and has fantastic coverage and the finish on the skin is beautiful.

5. Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation
Saving the best till last….. I wanted this Fenty foundation to work so much I went and brought another shade to see if that would help with the overall look… It didn’t. Yes I was caught up in the hype when the line launched and I picked up a number of products and brushes. But lets keep this focus on the foundation. On the Sephora website it claims it’s a soft matte, longwear foundation with buildable, medium to full coverage, the oil-free formula is made with climate-adaptive technology that’s resistant to sweat and humidity, and won’t clog pores so that wherever you are, it’s going to work on your skin. Best of all, this longwearing, light-as-air texture is undetectable on skin—so you always look like you.
On my skin the product dried down completely flat and opaque and I had to work hard to put colour back into the skin but it started to look too heavy for me. It is heavily pigmented so colour matching is crucial but I just couldn’t get it right sadly. I did pair it back with the Fenty primer but it still was difficult to blend and was just too flat for me. On my skin it felt dry and tight even with a mixture of primer options. *Sobbing hard in the corner!
I hope this helps some of you when deciding to purchase any of these blogger loved products. If you have had an experience with these products positive or negative leave me a comment!
