Carrie Bradshaw Sex & The City.
“I like my money right where I can see it: hanging in my closet.”

For most of us, designer pieces are something to strive for and invest wisely when we choose to take the plunge. I have some beautiful pieces that I have introduced into my wardrobe collection over the years and I mean it when I say it’s taken me YEARS! I’m all about buying smart and investing in pieces that have longevity, versatility and have a ‘classic’ status.
But with designers bringing out new collections seemingly constantly and the latest Instagram IT girl is carrying around a new luxury brand item daily, it can be hard to know the difference between a trend and a classic. I wanted to share my thoughts on 5 items in my collection that I feel are a good starting point to invest your money into or to think about including in your own collection that I consider are classics.

1. Saint Laurent Camera Bag or Wallet on Chain.

These two styles are staples in my wardrobe. I wear them both day and night and they go back with any outfit. The reason I say these two styles are classic is because Saint Laurent are continuing to show these styles season after season just in different leathers, fabrics and coloured hardware. So I know when I invest in these pieces they will have longevity. I have opted for a black leather in both styles which is much easier to maintain and I always keep my pieces in their original box and dust bag along with certification, which will make things easier if I ever decide to on-sell any pieces.

2. Christian Louboutin Black pumps

Every wardrobe collection needs a pair of designer black pumps. Christian Louboutin is famous for it’s distinctive red sole and high end clientele. No other shoe brand in the world has been able to achieve a distinctive stamp on their shoe quite like Louboutin’s. With the ability to enhance any outfit, lift your mood and instantly qualify you in the luxury designer shoe club, Louboutin’s are worth the investment.
3. Valentino Garavani Rock stud Spike Cross Body Bag.

The Valentino rock stud style has surpassed its seasonal roots and crossed over into a solid collector item. Re-sale site Vestiaire Collective said that the Valentino brand was in the top ten best brands for re sale which tells me my studded beauty will be in demand for years to come. This bag is large enough to wear in the day but I tend to keep it for special occasions as the light coloured leather can get marked easily.
Gucci GG Belt

Again a true staple in my collection. Classic, elegant but still contemporary and has the ability to pair back with multiple looks. My belt sits on the waist and I style it back with dresses, skirts, high waist pants and some high waist jeans. The GG hardware was first seen in the 1960’s and has stayed strong throughout countless Gucci collections. This belt is a buyer favourite and a piece that will be well loved for years to come.
5. Chloe Susanna Ankle Boot

An ankle boot ticks all my boxes… Comfort, style and drop in a little rock star edge. The Chloe Susanna boot has exploded and is seen on many a celebrity, actress and model running from show to show at fashion weeks. An Instagram favourite these boots now have cult status and are available in a range of leathers, colours and finishes that show me this power player is not going anywhere. My boots are in a smooth black leather and silver hardware.

I hope some of my insights will assist you when thinking about investing in designer items. Some of my most treasured pieces are vintage designer and have been handed down to me from my late mother. I hope I can do the same one day.
