Fast Fashion. The ability to obtain anything you want at the click of a button is very appealing. Although fast fashion is convenient and attainable, it can come at a high cost when looking at the fashion industry as a whole. Issues such as quality control, cheap labour and environmental effects are a concern. In the same vein, designer rentals offering the luxe without the price tag attached, can cripple independent designers. That being said the fashion industry is only meeting consumer demand, so until we as the consumers ideas evolve about what we buy and how, the fast fashion concept will continue.
So whats my take on it…? Well, I haven’t rented clothes but I do purchase clothes from time to time at Zara. Yes, I am a small cog in the big machine, but still conscious of making informed choices when I shop.
Being able to purchase on trend items, that are cost effective, turn over in one season, then move on, it’s so easy. I do try and limit my ‘fashion waste’ and extend the pre-loved items life by donating to charities and friends. Generally my wardrobe does consist of higher end, designer pieces… Yes more expensive, but I have the items for a much longer period, the quality of the fabric and manufacture is vastly different and I’m supporting Independent and local designers. Which to me, will always feel like I have something much more special than a quick fix from fast fashion.
Yes, high fashion isn’t for everyone and everyone should be able to gain joy from fashion if they choose. So with that, I made a collection of the latest high end Designer looks VS Fast fashion Queen, Zara. Let me know what your thoughts are on High end vs High street.. All looks are available online with the Independent designers and at Zara now.
