Don’t Dream it’s over- Tom Ford

Gigi Hadid for Tom Ford AW 2019 Ready to wear

It was a touch of Australia for the final looks at Tom Ford’s AW 2019 Ready to wear collection shown on February 6th in New York. The models walked to a soulful rendition of Australian rock royalty, Crowded House’s ‘Don’t dream it’s over.’

Which was a fitting sentiment to the collection which seemed to have an element of restraint and at times was cooled and understated. Which for Tom Ford, I think the sensual extreme and the opulent has always taken the front seat.

Velvet, leather and silk were strong as was the pant suit for both men and women. This is what we know Ford is famous for. Gigi Hadid was a standout wearing a velvet red-on-red- suit with a sheer black stocking and peep toe heels. The heels in the show were lust worthy… I’m still thinking about them. The old world glamour shone through with the silk evening column gowns, which had an embellished chain attached. To me it was like taking a look at the infamous crowds from New York in the 70’s and mixed with the minimal effort of 90’s chic. Who could forget Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy.

Tom Ford is a veteran in the world of fashion and continues to transform us into other worldly times, which I hope will never dream to be over.
